TECHNOLOGY CONTRACTS
Every student received a Technology contract. Please read this over with your child and send it back to their teacher. We are aware that some of the primary students may not be using technology to the extent that our intermediate students do, but there may be a time when an author visits our school and may need to have the children learn something on the IPADS. At Gordon we have had the tradition of students allowed to bring electronics on Fridays (grades 3-7). The staff are still reviewing what this will look like in the future.

LUNCH HOUR AT GORDON
The new space in our multipurpose room is not big enough to have the whole student body eating lunch at the same time. Right now we are trying a two tiered lunch where the primary students come down and eat first while the intermediate students play first. At the 12:30 bell the primary students go outside with their playground leaders and the intermediate students come in to eat. On sunny days the intermediate students are able to eat outside. With our hot lunch (C’est Mon café) on Mondays and Thursdays we have the same routine although students eating hot lunch need to eat inside.

PLAYGROUND LEADERS
We have 45 playground leaders in Grades 5-7 who are volunteering their time at recess and lunch to help to supervise our 6 primary classes. They have been a huge help to the teachers and the supervision aides ensuring that all children are included in games and creating a safe environment for our younger students to play in.

TERRY FOX RUN
Students are starting to collect donations for the Terry Fox Run. Students will be circulating each morning collecting donations in each class. Help us raise our goal of $2000! The run will be on Thursday, September 29 from 2:00-3:00pm. The kindergarten students sometimes either run around the field or around the new path we have on our site. The other students run to Bayview School and around the blocks with parents volunteering at the intersections. Parents and siblings are welcome to come and run with the Gordon community.

AFTER SCHOOL HANDS-ON SCIENCE FOR GRADE 4/5
Join Ingrid Sulston, a past Gordon parent, for after school hands-on science classes at her house next to the school. Hands-on activities on a new topic each week explore the underlying science of everyday phenomena. Classes are a maximum of 6 so that students can conduct independent investigations and guide topic choice in later weeks. Emphasis is on embracing creative ideas, and using critical thinking and the processes of scientific discovery for deeper exploration and understanding. When: Wednesday or Thursday, 3:15 - 5pm. 8 weeks starting Sept 28th/29th (option for prorating with a later start)
Where: Ingrid’s house next to the school. Ingrid can meet students in the playground.
How much: $140 for 8 weeks Ingrid has been teaching hands-on science for 22 years in schools, science centres and botanical gardens, with the last 7 years working in Vancouver schools and the last 6 years running after school science classes out of Gordon.
